Goodwood 2009 has to go down as the best that we, Cskate, has done so far. It took place on the 9th of August and this time we put our order in early for some sun for the day, making sure the event would go with a smile on every ones face.
Again as last year we chose the NSPCC as our charity to support as they gave us so much help last year. We did change one of the races though, from the Mega to the Dual which was double a full marathon, a distance of 22 laps or 53.24 miles.
We also changed the way we did the water stop this year. We had bottles at the half way point this time in stead of trying to fill cups with the nectar of life and we think that went well.
This year at least 70% of the participants were first timers, this you have to agree is great for skating and we hope they come back the next time we do our event.
We have to thank all those who gave their time and helped out on the day, without them it might not have gone so well and organized. To those at the registration tent, fantastic job. To all those who helped at the water stop, thanks. To all the stewards running around getting things sorted, I salute you.
Now let me give you some numbers, well this is what we do it for, the money. We where up on skating numbers this year, from over 200 in 2008 to well over 500 on the start line for this year. This in turn made a difference to the end cash total. After many hours of going through spreadsheets and all the banks stuff we came up with;
Total for the NSPCC: £11,180.00
Total raised for other charities: £1,602.65
Grand total for all charities and GiftAid: £16,361.79
To all who took part in this fantastic day to raise money for a good cause and hopefully pushed your selves to new goals and or targets, thank you and we hope to see you all at the next Goodwood Roller Marathon.
